Cidade moderna: formas de habitar

Abstract

Neste trabalho teórico o tema principal, como o título dita, é a "Cidade moderna - Formas de habitar". As transformações que sucederam no século XX devido à industrialização, relacionadas com mudanças notáveis na arquitetura particularmente no campo da habitação, trouxeram novos modelos habitacionais que alteraram o modo de vida e de adaptação por parte dos seus habitantes. Neste sentido, o trabalho inicia-se com a descrição da desolação da cidade tradicional resultante da industrialização, passando por propostas de racionalização da cidade industrial e inclusive a relação entre cidade tradicional e cidade moderna. Seguidamente, é referido o arquiteto Le Corbusier, ligado com o novo modelo de cidade baseado em ideais funcionalistas e com a "Unidade de Habitação de Marselha" apresentando diretrizes da ideia moderna de habitar. Por último, é apresentado o Modernismo Português relacionado com necessidades de âmbito social ligadas à racionalização e melhoramentos dos espaços, destacando o arquiteto Nuno Teotónio Pereira como um dos ativistas do moderno e um dos projetistas do "Bloco das Águas Livres" em Portugal, caso de estudo do presente trabalho.

In this theoretical work the main theme, as the title says, is the "Modern City - Forms of Habitation". The transformations that occurred in the twentieth century due to industrialization, related to notable changes in architecture particularly in the field of housing, brought new housing models that changed the way of life and adaptation by its in habitants. In this way, the work begins with the description of the desolation of the traditional city resulting from industrialization, through rationalization proposals of the industrial city and even the relationship between traditional city and modern city. Next, the architect Le Corbusier is mentioned, connected with the new model of city based on functionalist ideals and with the "Housing Unit of Marseilles" presenting directives of modern ideas to in habit. Finally, the Portuguese Modernism is related with social needs to the rationalization and improvement of the spaces, highlighting the architect Nuno Teotónio Pereira as one of the activists of the modern movement and one of the designers of the "Bloco das Águas Livres" in Portugal, case of study of the present work.
