This work focuses on the Masonic aesthetic in the city of Lisbon through a Masonic testimony and a very specifc architectural heritage, that of Manuel Moreira Garcia, former owner of the three case studies, the Trindade Ceremony, the Trindade Palace and the House Ferreira das Tabuletas. Through his testimony in the city of Lisbon we fnd in the work of the azulejador and painter Luís Ferreira das Tabuletas masonic symbolism. Speculative Freemasonry is linked to the use of symbology and is manifested by various artistic means. In Lisbon the architectural patrimony with Masonic bonds is found from the 19th century due to the great earthquake in 1755 and the successive persecutions and dismantling of Masonic lodges. The cases of study built during the nineteenth century are integrated in the grounds of the extinct Convent of the Holy Trinity which with the decree of extinction of the monastic orders on May 30, 1834 was parceled and sold to Manuel Moreira Garcia. His testimony is an example of how Freemasonry can be expressed in architecture through its coating. |
