Abstract: | The creation of the Euro on January 1st 1999 is one of the major economic events of the end of the 20th century. The emergence of the European monetary union is likely produce significant transformations in international monetary and financial relationships. In the case of Latin America, the importance of the single European currency will depend mainly on the speed at which its financial links with the Euro-zone intensify. This paper studies the long-term implications of this process of intensification of the financial relationships between Europe and Latin America, with a particular view to the question of exchange rate regimes. |
