A perceção da população face à presença de mulheres na política

Abstract

A presença de mulheres em cargos políticos tem suscitado interesse nos últimos anos. Por ser um fenómeno recente, a representação feminina ainda atinge valores relativamente baixos. Esta dissertação pretende perceber qual a perceção da população portuguesa face à presença de mulheres na política, mais concretamente se querem ver mais mulheres como deputadas, se avaliam equitativamente as capacidades de liderança de ambos os sexos, se concordam com quotas de género e, finalmente, se votariam numa mulher. Os resultados mostram que homens e mulheres têm visões diferentes quanto ao desejo de ter mais membros do Parlamento do sexo feminino e quanto à capacidade de liderança de homens e mulheres: as mulheres querem ter mais deputadas e não recorrem tanto a estereótipos de género. Relacionando a presença de mulheres na AR, a utilização de estereótipos e as quotas com a idade e a ideologia, não foram encontradas diferenças de opinião. Quanto às quotas de género, também não se encontraram diferenças de opinião entre as variáveis analisadas. Por fim, no que diz respeito ao voto numa candidata feminina: independentemente do sexo, idade e ideologia, a resposta é afirmativa.

The presence of women in political offices has raised interest in the last few years. Being a recent phenomenon, female representation is still on low levels. This dissertation aims to understand the Portuguese population’s perception on presence of women in politics, more specifically if they want more female parliamentarians, if they evaluate the leadership skills based on gender stereotypes, if they agree with gender quotas and, finally, if they would vote in a woman. The results show that men and women have different views of the presence of women in Parliament: women have a more favorable opinion than men towards both. Regarding gender stereotypes, unlike men, women use them less to evaluate the candidate’s capabilities than men. Ideology and age don’t show differences in this analysis. When talking about voting in a woman and gender quotas there is no difference between sexes, age or ideology: they would vote in a woman and they don’t show different opinions about gender quotas.
