Abstract: | The fast-food industry is characterized by quick response, products adaptation, closer location
and by a highly competitive and volatile environment. This industry is dominated by large
companies such as McDonald's, KFC and Burger King.
Recently, and regarding the changes in the mind-set of the consumers, many were the
transformations by which this industry has passed. Healthier lifestyles have motivated the
exponential growth of fast-food chains with healthier eating practices in this industry.
In face of this trend some chains reported lower performances than estimated, including
McDonald's. Less revenue, loss of customers and poor quality products association were some
of the problems faced. In this sense the administration launched, during 2015, the Turnaround
Plan to improve the financial and branding issues.
Due to the recent launch of this program it is too early to verify its success, however the results
already achieved are encouraging. Therefore, it is important highlight and discover how
companies realize, face and try to overcome the crisis, so because of that it was chosen the
McDonald's in this analysis.
Consequently, in this case study it is important realize how companies manage crisis situations
and how they respond to the same through market analysis, problem resolution and learnings.
With this, it is essential to understand the impact of crisis management plans in the
organizational structure of a company and what is the future benefits. Derivado desta tendência algumas cadeias registaram desempenhos aquém do expectável, nomeadamente a McDonald’s. |
