determinantes desse crescimento é o investimento direto estrangeiro (IDE). Esta dissertação
analisa o impacto do investimento direto estrangeiro no contributo do crescimento sustentável
fluxo financeiro e no longo prazo via externalidades.
covariância e a correlação.
Stock (ERS) e Kwitkowski Phillips Schmidt Shin (KPSS).
The Mozambican economy has grown significantly in the last decade, being the foreign direct investment (FDI) a decisive contributing factor of such progress. The paper herein presented addresses the impact of foreign direct investment on the sustainable development of Mozambican economy in the period between 1980 and 2014. This work starts with the literature review in order to better understand the effects of FDI on the receiver economy. In general in the short term, FDI increases the financial flow and in the long term FDI affects the economic growth via spillover effects and externalities. Then, it is performed an analysis at Mozambican market, explaining that most of the foreign investments are attracted by Mozambican natural resources. The series Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) are statistically analyzed. Their volatility, covariance and correlation are studied. During the econometric analysis, the presence of unitary root is tested through the following tests: Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF), Phillips Perron (PP), Elliot Rothenberg Stock (ERS) and Kwitkowski Phillips Schmidt Shin (KPSS). It is concluded that both variables are non-stationary and integrated of order one, I(1). Analyzing the cointegration relationship between GDP and FDI through Johansen and Engle-Granger cointegration tests it is possible to confirm that a cointegration relationship exists. Subsequently, the Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model is used and choosing the suitable lag in accordance with Schwarz (SC), Akaike (AIC), Hannan-Quin (HQ) and Likelihood-Ratio statistical test (LR) criteria. The Granger causality test shows that FDI Granger causes GDP but the opposite is not verified. Studying the impulse response functions (IRF), one is able to understand that FDI has a positive long term impact on GDP. According to the system variance decomposition, GDP values allow a good FDI estimation. Concluding, FDI has a positive impact in Mozambican economic growth, but the sustainable GDP development does not only depend on FDI. |
