No
The present study is aimed at HR Managers and Work Health professionals perceptions of work stress. Based on lay theories and attribution theory ideas, the meanings and ideas of the professionals who may actually decide how and when to intervene on work stress are explored, in order to understand if the way they think about it shapes or influences what they do, namely the kind of interventions they choose to do. Two different studies were made. On the first study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with a sample of 6 HR Managers and 4 Work Health professionals from several companies. These professionals were later asked to evaluate the perceived utility of some interventions. Data gathering on stress interventions that have been done on those companies was also collected. The data from the second study was gathered by an online survey, answered by 21 HR students ans 8 HR professionals. They were also asked about the meaning of stress and to evaluate the utility of the same interventions. Results show that those professionals do not take personal responsibility for managing work stress, a standpoint justified by the existence of a series of perceived obstacles and by the idea that stress is inevitable. A direct relationship between the perceived utility of stress interventions and its implementations was not found. Students tend to have opinions that are more in line with the “good practices” found in the literature. Implications of these findings are discussed and suggestions for further. |
