Experiências de conjugalidade em idade tardia: fatores motivacionais assumidos

Abstract

Embora vejamos um aumento de pessoas idosas a viver mais anos, o estudo do casamento/conjugalidade entre os “velhos” não tem sido uma opção para os investigadores. Os idosos começam a pensar numa alternativa para fazer face à solidão. Este trabalho tem como tema “As experiências de conjugalidade em idade tardia. Fatores motivacionais assumidos.”, e o seu objetivo global: conhecer quais os motivos que levam os indivíduos, na velhice, a assumir novas conjugalidades. Com os objetivos da investigação pretende-se conhecer e compreender a construção destas novas relações conjugais e quais as modificações sofridas na vida dos idosos com a nova relação conjugal. A metodologia da investigação centrou-se numa abordagem qualitativa com doze entrevistas, semi-dirigidas, abrangendo diferentes subgrupos de idosos: idosos frequentadores de centro de dia, idosos que residem na sua própria residência sem estarem afetos a qualquer instituição, e idosos que residem em meio rural ou urbano. De uma forma geral, os resultados da análise dos testemunhos indicam que, as finalidades de uma relação conjugal poderão ser: paixão, companheirismo e sexualidade. É de salientar, o destaque para o papel instrumental de uma relação na terceira idade. Identifica-se uma preocupação, pelo facto de se estar sozinho e da necessidade, evidenciada, de usufruir de um cuidador para colmatar alguma inexistência de apoio. Palavras-chave: , , ,

Though we see an increase of senior citizens living longer, the study of marriage/conjugal relationship between the "seniors" has not been an option for researchers. Senior citizens begin to think of an alternative to deal with loneliness. This work has as subject "The conjugal experiences in late age. Assumed motivational factors", and its global purpose is to know the reasons that make the individuals in old age, take on new conjugalities. With the objectives of the research we intended to know and understand the construction of these new marital relationships and what were the changes undergone in the life of the seniors with the new marital relationship in old age. The methodology of the research has focused on a qualitative approach with twelve interviews, semi-structured, covering different subgroups of seniors: seniors who attend day centers, seniors living in their own homes without being connected to any institution, and seniors living in the rural or urban area. In general, the results of the analysis of evidence indicate that the purposes of a marital relationship may be: passion, companionship and sexuality. Pointed out the emphasis on the instrumental role of a marital relationship in elderly. Identifies a concern, by the fact of being alone and the need, evidenced, to enjoy a caregiver to address any lack of support.
