As belas artes: um acordo entre a arquitetura e as artes plásticas

Abstract

A forte influência por parte das Artes na Arquitetura em Portugal, durante o século XX, descende das relações criadas no seio das Belas-Artes, escolas e sociedade. Durante este período, os alunos das áreas da pintura, escultura, design e arquitetura cruzavam-se no quotidiano e prosperavam num ambiente de partilha do que lhes era comum: as Artes. Motivo que levariam arquitetos, nos anos sequentes à década de 1950, a seguir percursos nas artes paralelos à arquitetura ou a convocar para as suas obras a colaboração de artistas plásticos, nomeadamente da pintura e escultura. Pretende-se assim entender como o ensino nas Beaux-Arts pendulou a formação de algumas gerações de artistas plásticos e arquitetos portugueses do século XX, onde a componente resultante da cooperação entre estes contribuiu inequivocamente para um enriquecimento da arquitetura portuguesa ao longo do século XX. No contexto atual, a Arquitetura tem vindo tendencialmente a libertar-se das restantes artes, naturalmente com algumas exceções. Com recurso a fontes directas ou consulta de artigos, identificam-se posicões e opiniões de artistas plásticos e arquitetos sobre a cooperação entre as Artes Plásticas e a Arquitectura, ou até mesmo de uma possível coautoria. “As Belas Artes: Um acordo entre a Arquitetura e as Artes Plásticas” reconhece e estabelece os campos de acção à questão da liberdade e do funcionalismo entre ambas as Artes, e de um entendimento entre o ornamento e a decoração. Reune também um número qualificável de obras realizadas por autores portugueses, em que o trabalho contíguo das artes plásticas com a arquitetura seja evidente, criando assim uma sucinta compilação demonstrativa da cooperação entre as duas Artes. Paralelamente, através de um exercício prático procura entender e encontrar novos limites de cooperação ou coautoria entre arquitetos e artistas plásticos.

During the twentieth century in Portugal a strong influence of Arts in Architecture descended from the intercourses created within the Fine Arts, the schools and society. During this period, students of painting, sculpture, design and architecture intersected in their daily life, In the other hand, the Arts was an environment of sharing common to them. The aim is to understand how teaching Beaux -Arts balanced several generations of Portuguese artists and architects of the twentieth century , where the component resulting from the cooperation between these, unequivocally contributed to the enrichment of Portuguese architecture throughout the twentieth century. In the current context, architecture has tended to liberate itself from the other arts, of course with some exceptions. Using direct sources of articles or query, it is possible to identify positions and opinions of artists and architects on cooperation between the fine arts and architecture or even a possible coauthorship. “The Fine Arts: An agreement between the Architecture and Fine Arts” recognizes and establishes the fields of action to the questions of freedom and functionality between the two arts, and also establishes an understanding between ornament and decoration. This work also brings together a number of qualifying works made by Portuguese authors in which the work of the contiguous visual arts with architecture is evident. Thus creates a succinct compilation demonstration and cooperation between the two arts. In parallel, a practical exercise was made seeking to understand and find new limits of cooperation between architects and artists.
