Incerteza, estratégias e construção do self nas doenças raras

Abstract

O presente estudo surge no decorrer da parte lectiva do Mestrado em Sociologia da Saúde e da Doença e teve como objectivo principal compreender a experiência da doença em doentes com doenças raras e dos seus familiares, em Portugal. Para analisar como é que estes indivíduos actuam perante a ruptura biográfica, como lidam com a incerteza provocada pela doença e constroem ou reconstroem o seu self ao longo das trajectórias de vida e da doença, recorreu-se à metodologia qualitativa, através de entrevistas semi-estruturadas aos doentes e familiares. Os resultados obtidos revelam que apesar da ruptura biográfica sentida, por todos os entrevistados, nas suas vidas, sobressai o agente activo que procura fazer face aos diversos acontecimentos que lhe surgem no curso da doença, recorrendo à mobilização de recursos disponiveis e à utilização de diversas estratégias para conseguirem normalizar as suas vidas na sociedade em que estão inseridos e construir ou reconstruir o seu self, das perdas que sofreram provocadas pela sua doença, ou do seu filho, ao longo das suas trajectórias de vida.

The present study arises during the taught part of the Master in Sociology of Health and Illness and had as main objective to understand the experience of illness in patients with rare diseases and their families in Portugal. To analyze how these individuals act before the biographic rupture, they deal with the uncertainty caused by the disease and build or rebuild your self along the paths of life and disease, we used the qualitative method using semi-structured to patients and families. The results show that despite the biographical disruption felt by all interviewees in their lives, stands the active agent that seeks to address the various events that will arise in the course of the disease, turning the mobilization of available resources and the use of different strategies to achieve normalization of their lives in society where they live and build or rebuild your self, who suffered losses caused by your illness or your child throughout their life trajectories.
