Que eles falem por si: representações de crianças, adolescentes e jovens sobre contextos de desenvolvimento

Abstract

As representações sociais caracterizam-se por constituírem quadros de compreensão e interpretação do real, baseando-se num conjunto de explicações, de crenças e de ideias, elaboradas a partir de modelos culturais e sociais. Neste âmbito, a presente investigação pretende dar o seu contributo no sentido de caracterizar e descrever as representações de crianças, adolescentes e jovens face a três contextos de desenvolvimento específicos, designadamente, família, escola e lar de acolhimento. Adicionalmente, pretende-se fornecer evidências para uma melhor compreensão dos factores que influenciam as representações face aos três contextos, mais concretamente ao nível das características de crianças, adolescentes e jovens, das características da família e da rede de suporte social. De modo a cumprir este propósito, procedeu-se ao desenvolvimento do estudo de validação dos instrumentos aplicados a uma amostra de estudantes do ensino básico, secundário e ensino superior (N=273). Os resultados que se obtiveram evidenciam três estruturas factoriais diferentes ao nível das representações face aos três contextos de desenvolvimento. Além disso, sugerem ainda a existência de factores que influenciam essas representações. Deste modo, as evidências encontradas sugerem ainda que as representações face aos contextos de desenvolvimento evidenciam uma estrutura composta por dimensões distintas, ao nível afectivo, funcional e estrutural, por exemplo. Sugerem ainda que os indivíduos atribuem uma importância maior ou menor às dimensões de família, escola e lar nas suas representações, em função de alguns factores, como por exemplo, o sexo, a idade, as características da família e a dimensão da rede de suporte.

Social representations are frameworks for understanding and interpreting reality, based on a set of explanations, beliefs and ideas that are created from social and cultural models. In this context, the present investigation intends to give a contribution for the characterization and description of the representations of children, teenagers and young people relating three specific contexts of development: family, school and foster homes. In addition, it aims to provide evidence for a better understanding of the factors that influence those representations of the three contexts, specifically in what regards the characteristics of the children, teenagers and young people, the characteristics of the family and of the social support network. In order to achieve this purpose, it was undertaken a study of instrument validation applied to a sample of middle school, high school and college students. (N=273) The results obtained show three different factorial structures in what regards the representations of the three development contexts. Besides, they suggest the existence of factors that influence those representations. The evidences found suggests either that the representations of the family, school and home contexts of development show a structure made of different dimensions in what regards affective, functional and structural levels. Furthermore, they suggest that the individuals attribute more or less importance to the family, school and home dimensions in their representations, variations that depend on factors like gender, age, family characteristics and dimension of the support network.
