O idoso hospitalizado: responder às necessidades perspectivando a satisfação do utente

Abstract

A intervenção do assistente social no sistema hospitalar centra-se no apoio psicossocial ao doente e família, estabelecendo elos de mediação entre as dimensões pessoal, sócio relacional, familiar, comunitária, organizacional, escolar e laboral. Uma das intervenções abrange o grupo designado de 3.ª idade em que a dependência física, as situações de solidão, as fragilidades económicas e até as condições habitacionais se tornam, muitas vezes, um impedimento a uma alta hospitalar com dignidade. A presente investigação é de natureza qualitativa, exploratória e tem subjacente um método indutivo/dedutivo. Utilizamos como instrumentos de pesquisa empírica, o questionário para caracterização da população-alvo e a técnica da entrevista. Concluímos através dos resultados, que a intervenção do assistente social no decorrer do internamento foca-se no diagnóstico das necessidades dos idosos e cuidadores em situação de grande vulnerabilidade social agravadas pela situação de doença. As necessidades físicas, técnicas, emocionais e económicas são uma realidade na vida destes idosos e cuidadores. As soluções sociais encontradas pelo assistente social embora possam colmatar a necessidade sentida por estes, muitas vezes não são as mais adequadas nem resolvem o problema na íntegra.

The intervention of the social assistant in the hospital system is centred on the psychosocial support to the patient and family, establishing mediation links between the personal, socio related, family, community, organizational, academic and laboral dimensions. One of the interventions embraces the designed group of elderly people, in which the physical dependence, the loneliness situations, the economic fragilities and even the housing conditions become, many times, an obstacle to a dignified hospital wing. The present investigation is of qualitative and exploratory nature and has an underlying inductive/deductive method. As instruments of empiric research, we use the questionnaire for the target population’s characterization and the technique of the interview. We conclude, through the results, that the social assistant’s intervention during the internment is focused on the diagnosis of the elderly people and caretakers’ needs in a great social vulnerability situation, aggravated by the illness situation. The physical, technical, emotional and economical needs are a clear reality in the lives of these elderly people and caretakers. The social solutions found by the social assistant, although may soften the needs felt by them, are often not the most adequate nor do they solve the problem in its’ totality.
