Do bullying ao cyberbullying: os papéis dos diferentes intervenientes e a ansiedade social

Abstract

A presente investigação pretende caracterizar e descrever o bullying, inserido na cultura portuguesa, relacionando-o com o cyberbullying. Mais concretamente, pretende-se verificar como é que estes fenómenos ocorrem em ambos os sexos, nas diferentes idades e anos de escolaridade, nos vários papeis assumidos pelos intervenientes, relacionando-os, ainda, com a ansiedade social. A amostra é constituída por 314 alunos, do 5º ao 12º ano de escolaridade, das escolas do concelho da Amadora. Os participantes têm idades compreendidas entre os 10 e os 20 anos, sendo que 48,7% são do sexo masculino. Os resultados evidenciaram que 22,3% dos participantes são vítimas de bullying, 13,7% são agressores, 6,7% são cyber-vítimas e 3,8% são cyberbullies. Não se verificaram diferenças significativas no que respeita o sexo ou ano de escolaridade, tendo-se, porém, observado que é na faixa etária dos 10 aos 13 anos que se verifica maior prevalência de bullying. Constataram-se várias correlações ao nível dos papeis dos intervenientes, em ambos os fenómenos. Observou-se, ainda, que tanto as vítimas de bullying como as de cyberbullying apresentam maiores níveis de ansiedade social. Os presentes dados revelam a importância de se continuarem a desenvolver estudos nestas áreas; apesar do cyberbullying ainda não ser tão expressivo em Portugal como noutros países, é uma oportunidade de explorar o fenómeno, com vista à prevenção.

This research aims to characterize and describe bullying, inserted in Portuguese culture and further link it with cyberbullying. Specifically, we intend to ascertain how these phenomena occur in both sexes, different ages and years of schooling, in the various roles assumed, relating them also with social anxiety. The study sample consists of 314 students from 5th to 12th grade, from schools in the municipality of Amadora. Participants are aged between 10 and 20 years old, with a male percentage of 48.7%. The results showed that 22.3% of participants are victims of bullying, 13.7% are bullies, 6.7% are cyber-victims and 3.8% are cyberbullies. There were no significant differences regarding sex or years of schooling, with the observation however of the higher prevalence of bullying in the ages between 10 and 13. Correlations were found at several of the roles of those involved in both phenomena. It was also observed that victims of bullying and cyber-victims present higher levels of social anxiety. This data reveal the importance of continuing to develop research in these areas; although the cyberbullying is not yet very present in Portugal or elsewhere in Europe or America, it is an opportunity to predict the phenomenon, in order to preventing it.
