A análise técnica e o mercado Português: MACD e RSI

Abstract

O presente estudo tem como objectivo analisar quais seriam os resultados da aplicação no mercado português de uma estratégia de investimento baseada na Análise Técnica, nomeadamente utilizando os indicadores MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence) e RSI (Relative Strength Index). Usando como amostra do mercado português o índice PSI 20 durante o período de 2001 (início do Euro) a 2009 (último ano civil completo), dividindo-o depois em quatro sub-períodos, representativos de diferentes tendências, serão simulados os resultados obtidos caso um investidor tivesse utilizado os indicadores previamente mencionados como base da sua estratrégia de investimento. Analisados os resultados, constataram-se comportamentos diferentes consoante o indicador utilizado. Com efeito, enquanto o RSI não forneceu resultados satisfatórios, o MACD revelou-se um indicador capaz de possibilitar a um investidor a obtenção de bons resultados, isto é, mais-valias.

The objective of the present study is to analyze which would be the results of an investment strategy based on the application of Technical Analysis to the Portuguese market, namely using the indicators MACD (Moving Average Convergence Divergence) and RSI (Relative Strength Index). Using as sample of the Portuguese market the PSI20 index, during the period of 2001 (beginning of the Euro) to 2009 (last complete calendar year), dividing it in four sub-periods, representatives of different trends, the results achieved by an investor were simulated following an investment strategy based on the trading rules of the above referred technical indicators After analyzing the results, there were very different outcomes for each indicator: while RSI presented unsatisfactory results, the MACD revealed itself as an indicator capable of getting good results for an investor, i.e., it led to capital gains well above its natural benchmark (buy-and-hold strategy).
