Com o mundo às costas: Stress e identidades sociais nas zungueiras de Luanda

Abstract

Este trabalho pretendeu compreender o stress na atividade das zungueiras de Luanda. Procurou ainda perceber o papel dos grupos enquanto atenuadores do impacto do stress na saúde destas mulheres. Do ponto de vista conceptual, recorremos à teoria transacional do stress de Lazarus & Folkman, (1984) que salienta a importância da atribuição de significado na determinação da reação de stress e também à teoria da identidade social (Tajfel & Turner, 1979) e à sua ligação à saúde (Haslam et al., 2009), que mostra o papel positivo para a saúde da identificação com grupos sociais. A investigação incluiu um primeiro estudo qualitativo em que foram entrevistadas 32 zungueiras com o objetivo de identificar os fatores de stress e os grupos relevantes para este grupo profissional. Os dados foram analisados com o Nvivo 12 e serviram de base para a construção do questionário. No segundo estudo quantitativo, o questionário elaborado foi aplicado a 252 zungueiras, com tratamento de dados do SPSS na versão 26. Os resultados mostram a existência de quatro tipos de fatores de stress (Problemas com as autoridades, Insegurança, Más condições físicas de trabalho e Falta de rendimento), estando o terceiro mais ligado com o nível geral de stress e o último com relações mais sistemáticas aos indicadores de saúde. Identificámos e avaliámos a importância e o apoio de diversos grupos (família, amigas, vizinhos, zungueiras, igreja, kixikila e AVAL), mas só os três últimos apresentam um efeito moderador significativo do stress na saúde. Assim, para as zungueiras que se identificam mais com o grupo da igreja, da kixikila e do AVAL, as situações de stress moderado têm menos impacto na saúde do que para as que não estão identificadas com estes grupos. Concluímos que o stress é prejudicial à saúde das zungueiras, especialmente as que praticam a venda na rua e não estão integradas em associações coletivas. A venda ambulante sendo considerada um meio de subsistência para as famílias, contudo, é um problema de saúde pública. Por conseguinte, esta investigação pretende contribuir para que a zunga seja considerada como trabalho formal, inscrito ao serviço de segurança social.

This study aimed to characterize stress in the work of zungueiras of Luanda. It also sought to understand the role of groups in mitigating the impact of stress on the health of these women. From a conceptual point of view, we used the transactional theory of stress by Lazarus & Folkman (1984), which emphasizes the importance of assigning meaning in determining the stress reaction, and also the theory of social identity (Tajfel & Turner, 1979) and its link to health (Haslam et al., 2009), which shows the positive role for health of identification with social groups. The research included a first qualitative study in which 32 zungueiras were interviewed with the aim of identifying the stress factors and groups relevant to this professional group. The data was analysed using NVivo 12 and served as the basis for constructing the questionnaire. In the second quantitative study, the questionnaire was administered to 252 zungueiras, and the data was processed using SPSS version 26. The results show the existence of four types of stress factors (Problems with the authorities, Insecurity, Poor physical working conditions and Lack of income), the third being more closely linked to the general level of stress and the last with more systematic links to health indicators. We identified and assessed the importance and support of various groups (family, friends, neighbours, zungueiras, church, kixikila and AVAL), but only the last three showed a significant moderating effect on stress on health. Thus, for zungueiras who identify more with the church, kixikila and AVAL groups, situations of moderate stress have less impact on health than for those who do not identify with these groups. We conclude that stress is harmful to health in the day-to-day activity of street vending practiced by zungueiras, especially those who sell on the street and are not part of collective associations. Street vending is considered a means of subsistence for families, it is also a public health problem. This work therefore aims to contribute to zunga being considered formal work, registered with the social security service.
