Trajetórias de vida de mulheres em situação de prostituição

Abstract

Esta dissertação, desenvolvida no âmbito do mestrado em Sociologia no ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, tem como intenção principal mapear as trajetórias de vida de mulheres que estejam, ou já tenham estado, em situação de prostituição – onde se incluem práticas de trabalho sexual. A investigação adotou uma abordagem qualitativa, através da realização de quatro entrevistas em profundidade e semiestruturadas. As entrevistas pretendem analisar a influência de fatores como a pobreza, a disfuncionalidade familiar, o consumo de drogas, entre outros, no envolvimento na prostituição/trabalho sexual. É também explorada a forma como estas mulheres navegam a sua experiência na prostituição, incluindo os seus desafios e motivos para a permanência ou saída da mesma. É ainda feita uma breve discussão acerca da legalidade desta atividade, tendo em conta a opinião das mulheres entrevistadas. Em suma, este estudo pretende potenciar o conhecimento sociológico da prostituição, desafiando e questionando pré-conceitos estabelecidos das diferentes agendas políticas.

This dissertation, developed as part of the Master’s in Sociology at ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon, primarily aims to map the life trajectories of women who are, or have been, involved in prostitution, including practices of sex work. The research employs a qualitative approach, conducting four in-depth, semi-structured interviews. These interviews examine the influence of factors such as poverty, family dysfunction, and drug use, among others, in relation to involvement in prostitution or sex work. The study also explores how these women navigate their experiences within prostitution, including the challenges they face and their reasons for either remaining or exiting the industry. Additionally, a brief discussion on the legal aspects of this activity is presented, reflecting the perspectives of the interviewees. Ultimately, this research seeks to enhance sociological understanding of prostitution by challenging and questioning established preconceptions across various political agendas.
