Papel do assistente social na escola durante a COVID-19

Abstract

A presente dissertação de mestrado em Serviço Social, investiga o impacto da pandemia da COVID-19 nas intervenções dos assistentes sociais na escola. Com o surgimento da pandemia, o contexto escolar foi drasticamente alterado, exigindo uma rápida adaptação dos profissionais a novas condições de trabalho, muitas vezes remotas, e ao aparecimento de novos desafios, como o aumento das desigualdades sociais e a intensificação de problemas emocionais e comportamentais entre os alunos. O estudo procura compreender como os assistentes sociais adaptaram as suas práticas e desenvolveram estratégias para continuar a prestar apoio eficaz num contexto de incerteza e mudança. O objetivo é analisar as dificuldades enfrentadas e as adaptações realizadas pelos assistentes sociais durante a pandemia, comparando-as com as práticas estabelecidas antes da crise sanitária. Pretende-se identificar as principais barreiras encontradas e as soluções implementadas, avaliando o impacto dessas mudanças na qualidade das intervenções e no bem-estar dos alunos. A metodologia adotada é qualitativa, focando-se na obtenção de dados aprofundados sobre as experiências dos assistentes sociais durante a pandemia. Para tal, foram realizadas seis entrevistas semiestruturadas com representantes de diferentes escolas, utilizando a plataforma Zoom. As conclusões do estudo destacam as principais dificuldades, como a necessidade de adaptação ao ambiente virtual e o desafio de manter o contacto próximo com os alunos e famílias, assim como as estratégias criativas desenvolvidas, como o reforço da comunicação digital e das parcerias com outras instituições de apoio social.

The present master's thesis in Social Work investigates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the interventions of social workers in schools. With the onset of the pandemic, the school environment was drastically altered, requiring professionals to quickly adapt to new working conditions, often remote, and to the emergence of new challenges, such as the increase in social inequalities and the intensification of emotional and behavioral problems among students. The study aims to understand how social workers adapted their practices and developed strategies to continue providing effective support in a context of uncertainty and change. The objective is to analyze the difficulties faced and the adaptations made by social workers during the pandemic, comparing them with established practices before the health crisis. It seeks to identify the main barriers encountered and the solutions implemented, evaluating the impact of these changes on the quality of interventions and the well-being of students. The methodology adopted is qualitative, focusing on obtaining in-depth data on the experiences of social workers during the pandemic. For this purpose, six semi-structured interviews were conducted with representatives from different schools, using the Zoom platform. The study's findings highlight the main challenges, such as the need to adapt to the virtual environment and the difficulty of maintaining close contact with students and families, as well as the creative strategies developed, such as strengthening digital communication and partnerships with other social support institutions.
