Estudo sobre literacia financeira face ao investimento em ações

Abstract

Portugal, de acordo com o Eurobarómetro de 2023, realizado para a Comissão Europeia, ficou em penúltimo lugar da União Europeia no que diz respeito à literacia financeira. Este conceito envolve o entendimento e domínio de riscos financeiros, bem como a capacidade, motivação e confiança para aplicar esse conhecimento na tomada de decisões eficazes em contextos financeiros. Adicionalmente, verifica-se um afastamento significativo do mercado acionista. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo entender as razões do afastamento dos portugueses em relação ao mercado acionista, considerando que este ativo tem sido, em média, o que melhor preserva e remunera o capital nas últimas décadas. Este trabalho dividiu-se em cinco partes. A primeira definiu o objeto do estudo que, apoiado na revisão de literatura, estabeleceu as bases científicas para esta dissertação. A segunda parte consistiu na realização de inquéritos para recolher dados sobre o nível de literacia financeira, tanto de forma geral como específica em relação ao conhecimento sobre ações. A terceira parte analisou os resultados organizados num Dashboard. Na quarta parte foram redigidas conclusões, recomendações e limitações do estudo. Por fim, foi desenvolvido um simulador financeiro que sugere alocações de capital em ações, com base no perfil de risco do investidor. Em suma, este estudo destacou a relevância da literacia financeira no investimento em ações, evidenciando o impacto negativo da iliteracia neste mercado. Muitos demonstraram desconhecimento sobre conceitos básicos, mas expressaram vontade de aprender, criando oportunidades para desenvolver estratégias que melhorem a literacia financeira e aproximem as pessoas do mercado acionista.

According to the 2023 Eurobarometer conducted for the European Commission, Portugal ranked second to last in the European Union regarding financial literacy. This concept encompasses the understanding and mastery of financial risks, as well as the capacity, motivation, and confidence to apply this knowledge in making effective financial decisions. Additionally, there is a significant disengagement from the stock market. The present work aimed to understand the reasons behind the detachment of the Portuguese from the stock market, considering that this asset has, on average, been the one that best preserves and rewards capital in recent decades. This work is divided into five parts. The first defined the object of study, which, supported by a literature review, established the scientific foundations for this dissertation. The second part involved conducting surveys to gather data on the level of financial literacy, both in general and specifically concerning knowledge about stocks. The third part analyzed the results organized in a Dashboard. The fourth part drafted conclusions, recommendations, and limitations of the study. Finally, a financial simulator was developed that suggests allocations of capital in stocks based on the investor's risk profile. In summary, this study highlighted the relevance of financial literacy in stock investment, revealing the negative impact of illiteracy in this market. Many demonstrated a lack of understanding of basic concepts but expressed a willingness to learn, creating opportunities to develop strategies that improve financial literacy and bring people closer to the stock market.
