De coadjuvantes a heroínas: A presença de personagens femininas nos filmes de super-heróis

Abstract

Esta tese centra-se na representação de personagens femininas em filmes de super-heróis, com foco em produções realizadas por mulheres entre 2008-2020. A crescente popularidade deste género cinematográfico é contextualizada através das transformações recentes na indústria do cinema, em especial em relação às questões de desigualdade de género. Apesar do aumento progressivo de super-heroínas, estas personagens ainda são frequentemente retratadas de maneira limitada e objetificada. O corpus de análise compreende quatro filmes: Homem de Ferro, Mulher Maravilha, Capitã Marvel e Aves de Rapina. A partir da análise do discurso de Foucault, examinaremos elementos como narrativa, construção de personagens e cinematografia, investigando temas como o papel das mulheres na sociedade, a exposição dos seus corpos e a exploração da sexualidade. O objetivo deste trabalho é compreender como as obras citadas contribuíram para a perceção cultural da identidade feminina no cinema contemporâneo. Busca-se demonstrar como as realizadoras mulheres têm o potencial para promover uma representação mais diversificada e equitativa das mulheres, analisando sua influência nas narrativas e estéticas desses filmes. Esta investigação propõe uma reflexão sobre as dinâmicas de género no contexto do cinema de super-heróis. As conclusões desta pesquisa podem fomentar debates sobre as transformações gradativas na forma como as mulheres são retratadas e percebidas na cultura popular.

This thesis focuses on the representation of female characters in superhero films, with a particular emphasis on productions directed by women between 2008 and 2020. The growing popularity of this cinematic genre is contextualized through the recent transformations in the film industry, especially concerning issues of gender inequality. Despite the progressive increase of superheroines, these characters are still often depicted in limited and objectified ways. The corpus of analysis comprises four films: Iron Man, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, and Birds of Prey. Based on Foucault's discourse analysis, we will examine elements such as narrative, character construction, and cinematography, investigating themes related to the role of women in society, the portrayal of their bodies, and the exploitation of sexuality. The aim of this study is to understand how the cited works have contributed to the cultural perception of female identity in contemporary cinema. It aims to demonstrate how female directors have the potential to promote a more diverse and equitable representation of women by shaping the narratives and aesthetics of these films. This research proposes a reflection on gender dynamics in the context of superhero cinema. The conclusions of this research can foster debates about the gradual transformations in how women are portrayed and perceived in popular culture.
