O papel dos estilos parentais nos comportamentos sexuais de risco em jovens emergentes

Abstract

A transição para a idade adulta envolve a exploração relacional e sexual, com progenitores e amizades a ganharem novamente importância como figuras-chave da autoidentidade. O apoio social surge também como um fator de proteção contra os desafios. Este estudo correlacional procurou analisar as associações entre diferentes estilos parentais (democrático, permissivo, autoritário) e comportamentos sexuais de risco em jovens emergentes (N = 305; idades 18-29, M = 24,8, DP = 3,01) em one night stands, amigos com benefícios e relações exclusivas. O estudo também investigou o papel moderador do apoio social. Os resultados indicaram que um estilo parental democrático da mãe estava associado a um comportamento sexual menos arriscado em one night stands. Relativamente às figuras paternas, um estilo democrático foi associado a comportamentos sexuais mais seguros em todos os contextos relacionais. Além disso, foi verificado que os participantes reportaram tinham mais comportamentos sexuais seguros quando pais tinham um estilo predominantemente democrático (em one night stands), permissivo (em amigos com benefícios) autoritário (em relações exclusivas), mas apenas quando há um maior apoio social. São discutidas implicações teóricas e práticas para a promoção de saúde sexual e bem-estar junto de jovens emergentes.

The transition to adulthood involves relational and sexual exploration, with parents and friends once again gaining importance as key figures in self-identity. Social support also emerges as a protective factor against challenges. This correlational study sought to analyse the associations between different parenting styles (democratic, permissive, authoritarian) and risky sexual behaviour in emerging adults (N = 305; ages 18-29, M = 24,8, SD = 3,01) in one-night stands, friends with benefits and exclusive relationships. The study also investigated the moderating role of social support. The results indicated that a mother's democratic parenting style was associated with less risky sexual behaviour at one-night stands. Regarding paternal figures, a democratic style was associated with safer sexual behaviour in all relational contexts. In addition, it was found that participants reported safer sexual behaviour when parents had a predominantly democratic style (in one-night stands), authoritarian (in exclusive relationships) and permissive (in friends with benefits), but only when there is greater social support. Theoretical and practical implications for the promotion of sexual health and well-being among emerging young people are discussed.
