Homonormatividade: Um caso de sucesso na televisão Portuguesa?

Abstract

Ao longo dos últimos anos, têm-se vindo a verificar importantes progressos no que concerne os direitos LGBTQ+. Porém, existe a possibilidade de estes servirem apenas de ferramenta para a manutenção da ordem dominante, ao mesmo tempo que prevalece a marginalização de quem não pratica a norma. Assim, a presente dissertação propõe-se a explorar os impactos da televisão, enquanto um dos meios mais influentes na história da comunicação, na reprodução dos discursos que mantêm essa mesma ordem hegemónica. Neste caso, a narrativa a explorar é a homonormatividade e, através de uma análise de conteúdo temática, procura-se identificar quais as dimensões que mais reproduzem a ideologia e quais as que apresentam um teor mais subversivo. Para tal, realizaram-se 10 entrevistas, de teor biográfico, nos canais generalistas da televisão portuguesa, com a finalidade de responder a: qual o papel atual das figuras mediáticas queer na reprodução de um discurso homonormativo, na televisão portuguesa? Por fim, procedeu-se a uma exploração dos significados das mensagens e das suas leituras enquanto códigos preferidos e dominantes ou a sua possibilidade de rotura, assim como a presença (ou não) de um retrato televisivo congruente com a realidade social da maior parte dos sujeitos em questão. Revelaram-se, na grande maioria, a manutenção de discursos homonormativos, embora seja assinalável a presença de sinais contra-hegemónicos.

Over the past few years, important progress has been made regarding LGBTQ+ rights. However, there is the possibility that these simply serve as tools for maintaining the dominant order, while at the same time the marginalization of those who do not practice the norm prevails. Therefore, this dissertation aims to explore the impacts of television, as one of the most influential media in the history of communication, on the reproduction of discourses that maintain this same hegemonic order. In this case, the narrative to explore is homonormativity and, through a thematic content analysis, we seek to identify which dimensions most reproduce the ideology and which present a more subversive content. To this end, 10 biographical interviews were carried out on generalist portuguese television channels, with the aim of answering: what is the current role of queer media figures in the reproduction of a homonormative discourse on Portuguese television? Finally, we explored the meanings of the messages and their readings as preferred and dominant codes or their possibility of breaking, as well as the presence (or not) of a television portrayal congruent with the social reality of most of the subjects in question. The vast majority of homonormative discourses were maintained, although the presence of counter-hegemonic signs was notable.
