The relationship between voluntary work and the work of social workers has been the subject of study around the world: Israel, the United States of America, the Netherlands, Denmark, among others, but in Portugal this topic has been little explored. In this dissertation we seek to understand a little the reality regarding this relationship that exists in some Portuguese social economy institutions. 15 semi-structured interviews were carried out with 5 social workers and 10 volunteers, from 5 institutions located in Lisbon. Qualitatively, we seek to collect data about their professional experiences to identify recurring patterns in these realities. After this analysis, we sought to relate these realities to existing models, especially those of Cameron, Johnson, Willis, Lloyd, & Smith (2020), the collaborative models: augmenting, discrete and filling gaps/assisting. Thus, through this study we show how effective collaboration between social workers and volunteers can enhance and enrich social interventions and institutions and improve the well-being of beneficiaries. |
