Halal na comunidade muçulmana Odivelense: A importância sociocultural da alimentação

Abstract

Esta tese é o culminar do acompanhamento do projeto pioneiro de implementação de refeições halal na rede escolar pública do concelho de Odivelas pela Câmara Municipal de Odivelas (CMO). O seu objetivo central é analisar o impacto sociocultural do Halal dentro da comunidade local odivelense atendendo à visibilidade trazida ao seu termo, um que traduz um estilo de vida que abrange todas as dimensões sociais, culturais e religiosas da vida muçulmana, pelo projeto da câmara. A integração social dos alunos muçulmanos visados e a fomentação e manutenção das suas identidades enquanto muçulmanos (identidade religiosa) e cidadãos portugueses (identidade nacional) são objetivos predominantes do projeto camarário; objetivos esses que exploro e analiso atendendo fatores socioculturais e religiosos. Os contactos que estabeleci com a comunidade muçulmana de Odivelas foram elementos-chave para a realização da dissertação devido à sua perspetiva que me forneceram sobre o Halal. A proximidade com famílias muçulmanas permitiu-me compreender a importância social da dieta halal nas famílias muçulmanas e a forma como a “consciência halal” é, desde terna idade, criada e detida pelas crianças. O estudo da alimentação de uma sociedade ajuda-nos a compreender as múltiplas dimensões sociais, culturais e religiosas sob as quais a mesma é construída e se opera. A partir da comida apreendemos os complexos e sofisticados processos relacionais existentes entre indivíduos; processos esses que se encontram permeados por entre a comensalidade da alimentação.

This thesis is the culmination of the monitoring of the pioneering project to implement halal meals in the public school network in the municipality of Odivelas by the Municipality of Odivelas (MO). Its central objective is to analyze the sociocultural impact of Halal within the local community of Odivelas, given the visibility brought to its term, one that translates a lifestyle that encompasses all social, cultural and religious dimensions of Muslim life, by the chamber project. The social integration of targeted muslim students and the promotion and maintenance of their identities as Muslims (religious identity) and Portuguese citizens (national identity) are the main objectives of the City Council project; these objectives that I explore and analyze taking into account sociocultural and religious factors. The contacts I established with the Muslim community of Odivelas were key elements for the completion of the dissertation due to their perspective on Halal. Proximity to muslim families allowed me to understand the social importance of the halal diet in Muslim families and the way in which “halal awareness” is, from an early age, created and held by children. The study of the diet of a society can help us understand the multiple social, cultural and religious dimensions under which it is built and operates. It is from food that we apprehend the complex and sophisticated relational processes that exist between individuals; processes that are permeated by the commensality of food.
