Abstract

A dissertação A contribuição do programa Residências de Estudantes para o desenvolvimento da educação em Cabo Verde tem como objetivo avaliar o impacto do programa Residências de Estudantes no desenvolvimento da educação cabo-verdiana, dado que as residências se têm mostrado como um recurso do Governo de Cabo Verde para garantir aos estudantes em situação de vulnerabilidade a continuação da trajetória escolar. Residências de Estudantes é um programa de extrema relevância para a garantia de condições igualitárias aos estudantes de ensino secundário e superior, mobilizando recursos para o ingresso e a permanência dos estudantes socialmente desfavorecidos no processo de formação. O programa está inserido em políticas públicas para melhorar o desempenho académico de estudantes no ensino secundário e superior e para combater a evasão escolar.

The research work which is presented here is part of the Master’s Degree in School Administration, and is entitled: "The Student Residences, their relevance and contribution to the development of Education in Cape Verde". This research aimed to evaluate the impact of the Student Residences in the context of education as a process of development of the Cape Verdean society, given that the Residences have proven to be a resource, used by the Government, to maintain students in vulnerable situations, i.e., financially disadvantaged and those who are geographically isolated in their educational pathway. The Students' Residence (SR) is a secondary education program of extreme relevance in guaranteeing equal conditions for secondary and higher education students because it plays a fundamental role in mobilizing resources, thus ensuring the permanence and the path of socially disadvantaged students in the training process, considering it as a mobilizing component of education, and thus contributing to the formation of a well-educated society. In Cape Verde, RE is inserted in student support programs, which aim to improve the academic performance of students in secondary and higher education. The use of this powerful tool used by the government in the fight against school dropout guarantees equal opportunities to students in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability.
