Género e reforma: Perspetivas e vivências de homens e mulheres

Abstract

A presente dissertação pretendeu, através de uma perspetiva de género, explorar empiricamente as perspetivas e vivências de homens e mulheres sobre as suas reformas, enriquecendo o presente e o futuro da sociedade portuguesa, em constante envelhecimento. De forma a captar melhor a diversidade e complexidade das experiências de cada individuo, foi utilizada uma metodologia qualitativa. Neste sentido, foram realizadas entrevistas individuais semiestruturadas a 16 pessoas reformadas. A amostra foi equilibradamente dividida em termos de sexo, sendo oito participantes do sexo masculino e oito do sexo feminino, com idades compreendidas entre os 59 e 88 anos. A análise temática, de Braun e Clarke (2006), permitiu-nos identificar cinco temas nos discursos dos/as participantes, referentes às suas perspetivas face à reforma, às ocupações na reforma, às vivências na reforma, às perceções sobre as pensões de reforma e aos obstáculos a uma reforma ativa. Os resultados proporcionaram desenvolvimentos importantes no estudo da reforma numa perspetiva de género, até agora ausente na sociedade portuguesa. Concluímos que o género pode ser uma fonte de heterogeneidade, nesta fase da vida, sugerindo que estas descobertas devem ser analisadas à luz de uma perspetiva de curso de vida, evidenciando o impacto que as diferentes trajetórias de homens e mulheres têm, assim como o contexto histórico e social onde as mesmas se desenrolam.

This dissertation intended, through a gender perspective, to empirically explore the perspectives and experiences of men and women on their retirement, enriching the present and future of Portuguese society, in constant aging. In order to capture the diversity and complexity of each individual's experience, a qualitative methodology was used. In this sense, semi-structured individual interviews were carried out with 16 retired people. The sample was evenly divided in terms of gender, with eight participants being male and eight being female, aged between 59 and 88 years old. The thematic analysis, by Braun and Clarke (2006), allowed us to identify five themes in the speeches of the participants, referring to the perspectives regarding retirement, occupations in retirement, experiences in retirement, perceptions about retirement pensions and obstacles to active retirement. The results provided important developments in the study of retirement from a gender perspective, until now absent in Portuguese society. We conclude that gender can be a source of heterogeneity at this stage of life, suggesting that these findings should be analyzed in the light of a life course perspective, highlighting the impact that the different trajectories of men and women have, as well as the historical and social context in which they take place.
