Vozes à margem: A mulher rapper em Portugal

Abstract

A presença da mulher no mundo do rap, um género musical integrante do setor cultural, tem sido pouco abordada em peças jornalísticas e artigos de origem académica, em Portugal. Paralelamente, a mulher, como interprete de rap, não possui um lugar de destaque em cartazes de música e é pouco convidada para eventos. Apenas duas rappers, Capicua e Nenny, participaram no concerto sobre a “História do Hip-Hop Tuga” de 2022, um concerto com várias edições protagonizado por nomes marcantes do hip-hop português. Através da presente dissertação, pretende compreender-se como é que, então, se caracteriza, atualmente, a mulher no rap em Portugal. Partindo da análise de um conjunto de estudos, artigos jornalísticos, e entrevistas realizadas às rappers Capicua e Joana na Rap, foi possível concluir-se que a presença da mulher no rap é caracterizada pela invisibilidade e luta, no entanto, há uma rapper que se consegue destacar e que não se encontra no padrão de mulher rapper, observado ao longo da história da mulher no rap em Portugal, a artista Capicua. Por outro lado, considera-se que existe menos mulheres a vingar neste meio devido, maioritariamente, à sociedade patriarcal – na qual a mulher rapper não se encontra no padrão de rapper e existe uma dificuldade de conciliação da vida artística profissional e a pessoal.

The presence of women in the world of rap, a musical genre that is part of the cultural sector, has been little addressed in journalistic pieces and articles of academic origin in Portugal. At the same time, women as rap performers do not have a prominent place in music posters and are rarely invited to events. Only two rappers, Capicua and Nenny, participated in the concert on the "History of Tuga Hip-Hop" in 2022, a concert with several editions starring leading names of Portuguese hip-hop. The aim of this dissertation is to understand how women in rap inPortugal are currently characterised. Based on the analysis of a set of studies, journalistic articles and interviews conducted with the rappers Capicua and Joana na Rap, it was possible to conclude that the presence of women in rap is characterised by invisibility and struggle, however, there is one rapper who can stand out and who is not in the pattern of female rapper, observed throughout the history of women in rap in Portugal, the rapper Capicua. On the other hand, it is considered that there are fewer women succeeding in this medium mainly due to the patriarchal society - in which the female rapper does not meet the rapper standard and there is a difficulty in reconciling professional and personal artistic life.
