Economia circular no setor dos transportes rodoviários de mercadorias em Portugal

Abstract

As alterações climáticas são um dos temas mais debatidos e relevantes no século XXI. O impacto que as evoluções industriais dos últimos cem anos têm no nosso meio ambiente põe em causa as condições de vida no planeta, atualmente, mas principalmente no futuro. Se os padrões de exploração de recursos não forem alterados, as gerações futuras poderão não conseguir satisfazer as suas necessidades. O setor dos transportes tem um impacto diário e significativo nos problemas ambientais do planeta. Esta dissertação foca-se no transporte rodoviário de mercadorias que é responsável por aproximadamente metade das emissões de gases do transporte rodoviário. A economia circular é um modelo inovador e que pode ser a solução para muitos dos problemas ambientais no mundo. Este modelo é um substituto para a economia linear que vigora atualmente. O objetivo deste estudo consiste em perceber se a economia circular pode solucionar os problemas ambientais do setor dos transportes rodoviários de mercadorias e, ao mesmo tempo, contribuir para o aumento de valor do mesmo. Representantes de cinco transportadoras foram entrevistados sobre a economia circular e os desafios de sustentabilidade no setor. Com base nos resultados das entrevistas, na literatura existente e nos princípios da economia circular, foi feita uma análise às empresas entrevistadas que permite perceber quais os obstáculos que estas enfrentam atualmente e quais as suas soluções. Assim conclui-se que para a economia circular ser implementada no setor é necessário desenvolvimento tecnológico, a circularidade tem de estar presente nos valores organizacionais e as relações entre os agentes da cadeia de abastecimento devem ser melhoradas.

Climate change is one of the most debated and relevant topics in the 21st century. The impact that industrial developments over the last hundred years have had on our environment jeopardizes living conditions on the planet, today, but especially in the future. If patterns of resource exploitation are not changed, future generations may not be able to meet their needs. The transport sector has a daily and significant impact on the planet's environmental problems. This dissertation focuses on road freight transport, which is responsible for approximately half of road transport gas emissions. The circular economy is an innovative model that can be the solution to many of the world's environmental problems. This model is a replacement for the linear economy that currently prevails. The objective of this study is to understand if the circular economy can solve the environmental problems of the road freight transport sector and, at the same time, contribute to the increase in its value. Representatives from five carriers were interviewed about the circular economy and sustainability challenges in the sector. Based on the results of the interviews, on the existing literature and in the principles of the circular economy, an analysis was made of the companies interviewed that allows us to understand what obstacles they currently face and, what are the solutions for them. Thus, it is concluded that for the circular economy to be implemented in the sector, technological development is necessary, circularity must be present in the organizational values and the relationships between agents in the supply chain must be improved.
