Uma análise multinível do efeito da heterogeneidade das escolas secundárias no 1º ano de engenharia: um estudo de caso

Abstract

O insucesso escolar no Ensino Superior é hoje uma realidade bem conhecida no panorama educativo nacional. Os factores que estarão na origem desta realidade são diversos e nem sempre passíveis de mensurar, seja pelo seu carácter de excepção, seja pela sua natureza. Uns (factores) serão conhecidos no momento de ingresso na universidade, podendo ser intrínsecos ao aluno, outros resultarão da frequência do Ensino Superior. Este trabalho incide, em particular, sobre a problemática do insucesso no 1º ano, nos cursos da área da Ciência, Tecnologia e Engenharia, tendo por base o manancial de informação conhecido a priori sobre o aluno, a par com elementos do seu percurso anterior, evidenciando-se a influência da escola secundária frequentada. O objectivo genérico é aferir o contributo da conjugação de alguns destes factores para os processos de construção do sucesso do aluno enquanto estudante do Ensino Superior. Para tal é usada uma modelação multinível, considerando dois níveis de análise. Um primeiro nível que inclui características intrínsecas ao aluno e, um segundo nível, com uma caracterização de segmentos de escolas secundárias de proveniência dos alunos.

Nowadays school failure in Higher Education is a well-known reality in the Portuguese educational system. The factors underlying this reality are numerous and not always measurable, either due to their exceptional quality or nature. Some factors may be known at the moment the student is admitted to the University, either being intrinsic to the student himself or derived from the student's path in Higher Education. This research focuses, in particular, on the problem of failure in the 1st year, in the Science, Technology and Engineering courses, on the basis of an a prior known array of information on the student, alongside with elements of their previous path, of which the influence of secondary school should be highlighted. The overall purpose is to determine how these factors together contribute to the construction of students' success processes as Higher Education students. To attain this, a multilevel model is used, considering two levels of analysis. The first includes characteristics that are intrinsic to the student, and a second level that involves characteristics of secondary school sectors from where students come.
