Ciganos, os portugueses esquecidos: percepções de justiça e relações com as autoridades, a lei e a justiça

Abstract

Neste estudo correlacional o objectivo foi o de aprofundar factores que poderão influenciar a Privação Relativa, utilizando variáveis apresentadas nos estudos de Vala, Lopes e Brito (1999), de Vala, Brito e Lopes (1999) e os de Lima e Vala (2003a, 2003b), como a Satisfação com a Vida, Auto-Estima Colectiva, Interdependência, Legitimidade das Assimetrias; Interiorização das Normas Sociais, Crença na Mudança Social; Participação em Acções Colectivas e Controlo sobre a Vida e Sobre o Sistema Social. Os participantes foram 121 indivíduos de etnia cigana, 38 do sexo feminino (31.4%) e 83 do sexo masculino (68.6%) e os resultados mostraram que o número de indivíduos duplamente privados é significativo; e que os inquiridos apresentam alta Satisfação com a Vida, Auto-Estima Colectiva, Crença na Mudança Social, Percepção de Legitimidade e Interiorização das Normas Sociais, e baixa Participação em Acções Colectivas. A análise correlacional apresentou diversas associações com os índices de Privação Relativa, que sugerem futuras linhas de investigação. Optou-se por realizar ainda análises de variância utilizando apenas os índices de Privação Relativa Intergrupal como variáveis dependentes teóricas, tendo-se verificado várias diferenças significativas, nomeadamente que a participação em acções colectivas ocorre primordialmente em privados e que no índice das relações com as autoridades, a Lei e a Justiça, a Auto-Estima Colectiva é mais intensa em privados e a legitimidade em Gratificados; não se tendo verificado diferenças significativas no caso da Privação Relativa Institucional.

In this correlational study the aim was to analyze aspects that may influence Relative Deprivation, using to that effect various variables presented on studies developed by Vala, Lopes and Brito (1999), Vala, Brito and Lopes (1999) and Lima and Vala (2003a, 2003b); such as Life Satisfaction, Collective Self-Esteem, Interdependence, Legitimacy of Asymmetries, Interiorization of Social Norms, Belief in Social Change, Participation in Collective Actions and Control over Life and over the Social System. Participants were 121 gypsy individuals, 38 female (31.4%) and 83 males (68.6%) and the results showed that the number of individuals with double relative deprivation is significant; and that respondents showed high scores in Life Satisfaction, Collective Self-Esteem, Belief in Social Change, Legitimacy of Asymmetries, Interiorization of Social Norms; and low scores in Participation in Collective Actions. Correlation analysis showed several associations with the relative deprivation indexes, suggesting future paths of research. We performed yet further analysis of variance using only Intergrupal Relative Deprivation indexes as theoretical dependent variables, and there have been several significant differences, namely that Participation in Collective Action occurs primarily in deprived individuals and that in the index of Relative Deprivation related with the relationship with the authorities, Law and Justice, the Collective Self-Esteem is more intense in deprived individuals and Legitimacy of Asymmetries in Gratified; there were no significant differences on Institutional Relative Deprivation.
