Dilemas da cidade e da forma

Abstract

A mudança de fronteiras entre público e privado, as respostas às ameaças ambientais, os modos de vida alternativos e, especialmente o avanço rápido das tecnologias, são alguns dos factores que mudam o modo como percebemos e olhamos para o mundo. Os efeitos podem ser vistos nas obras duma nova geração de arquitectos, não normalizados, tal como os que integram os ateliers R&Sie..., NOX, Asymptote, KOL/MAC Studio entre outros. O presente trabalho de investigação foca o estudo dos fenómenos envolvidos no desenvolvimento da arquitectura e urbanismo, tendo em conta a importância do objecto de arquitectura, o qual dá a imagem da cidade. O trabalho aborda a face menos pragmática e mais idealizada da arquitectura pelo estudo e apresentação das obras contemporâneas mais radicais e inovadoras. A revisão bibliográfica trata temas como a ferramenta digital na arquitectura, a arquitectura genética, a arquitectura líquida e o conceito de cidade utópica, dando assim uma visão geral das tendências contemporâneas da arquitectura e urbanismo, focalizando-se na imagem e na morfologia. Constata-se que a arquitectura actual ganhou uma nova dimensão do espaço arquitectónico, permitindo a interacção humana em mundos simulados pela criação de presenças virtuais. A arquitectura tem que ter uma finalidade e tem que ter sentido, ou seja, necessita de comunicar. A pele, a informação e a projecção dão novas formas e novos espaços para o passeante e para a leitura da cidade. Transparências, materialidades, cor, som, cheiro, tudo para caracterizar uma nova era, uma nova corrente arquitectural para o homem do século XXI.

The shift of the borders between public and private, the responses to the ambiental threats, the alternative way of life and, especially the fast development of the new technologies are some of the facts that change the way we understand and see the world. The effects can be seen in the work of a new generation of architects, non standard, like R&Sie..., NOX, Asymptote, KOL/MAC Studio and others. This research focused on the study of the events involved in the development of architecture and urbanism, always giving maximum importance to the architectural object which gives the image of the city. This work approaches the less pragmatic and more idealistic face of architecture by the study and presentation of the more radical and innovative contemporary works. It studies topics like digital tools in architecture, genetic and liquid architecture and the concept of utopical city, giving like this a general picture of the new tendencies in the contemporary architecture and urbanism, always focused on the image and the morphology. Architecture gained a new dimension of the architectural space, permitting the human interaction in simulated worlds by creating virtual presences. Architecture has to have finality and a sense, so, it must communicate. The skin, the information and the projection give new forms and new spaces for the passenger and the lecture of the city. Transparency, materiality, color, smell, everything to characterize a new era, a new architectural trend for the 21st century.
