Uma fita de touros irá passar no estrangeiro: Gado Bravo (1934) e o sonho de uma indústria cinematográfica europeia em Portugal

Abstract

Esta pesquisa objetiva refletir como Portugal, mesmo à margem da cinematografia internacional, dominada por países como os Estados Unidos e a Alemanha, possuía um lugar no meio dos fluxos cinematográficos da década de 1930. Neste sentido, pretende-se compreender como a dinâmica entre uma juventude cinéfila dotada de contatos e influências no estrangeiro e o recém criado Estado Novo desenhou os projetos da fomentação da indústria cinematográfica portuguesa. Fundado em 1933, o Bloco H. da Costa possuiu o objetivo de promover uma produção contínua de filmes portugueses com o intuito de obterem êxito internacionalmente. Parte-se, a partir daí, a busca por juntar figuras internacionais com os técnicos portugueses para que trabalhassem lado a lado a fim de realizar filmes cuja qualidade técnica pudesse competir com as principais indústrias cinematográficas da época. Desta forma, estreou em agosto de 1934 a única longa-metragem produzida pelo Bloco: Gado Bravo, de António Lopes Ribeiro, supervisionado pelo alemão Max Nosseck. A partir disto, esta dissertação possui o intuito de responder às seguintes questões: De que maneira Gado Bravo ilustrou o projeto de criar uma indústria nacional portuguesa de moldes internacionais? E como tal objetivo pode ser lido como consequência das circulações transnacionais existentes no cenário cinematográfico na primeira metade da década de 1930?

This research aims to reflect how Portugal, even at the margins of international cinematography, dominated by countries such as the United States and Germany, had a place in the midst of the cinematographic flows of the 1930s. In this sense, it is intended to understand how the dynamics between a young cinema-goers gifted with contacts and influences from abroad and the newly created Estado Novo designed the projects of the fomentation of the Portuguese film industry. Founded in 1933, the H. da Costa Block had the objective of promoting a continuous production of Portuguese films with the intention of achieving international success. From this, the search was on to bring together international figures with portuguese technicians so that they could work side by side to make films whose technical quality could compete with the main industries of the time. Thus, the only feature film produced by the Bloco premiered in August 1934: Gado Bravo, by António Lopes Ribeiro, supervised by german Max Nosseck. Based on this, this dissertation has the intention of answering the following questions: In what ways did Gado Bravo illustrate the project of creating a Portuguese national industry of international molds? And how can this goal be read as a consequence of the transnational circulations existing in the cinematographic scenario in the first half of the 1930s?
