Roteiro da Inquisição em Lisboa: Uma possibilidade cultural?

Abstract

Este trabalho pretendeu levar a cabo a construção de um roteiro da Inquisição em Lisboa, após se perceber se existem elementos suficientes na cidade. O Santo Ofício consistiu, indubitavelmente, numa das instituições mais poderosas em Portugal e durante quase três séculos influenciou e reprimiu a sociedade portuguesa. Apesar de ser um tema tabu, tem vindo a ser estudado cientificamente, sendo o próximo passo o de fornecer um maior acesso desse conhecimento à sociedade, de forma dinâmica. Nesse sentido foi estudada a presença inquisitorial na Europa durante a Idade Média e posteriormente em Portugal, desde 1536 a 1821. São apresentadas todas as frentes em que a instituição atuava, o seu modo de operar e o modo como se moldou de acordo com as suas necessidades. Depois, com base na bibliografia, em processos inquisitoriais, listas dos autos da fé e registos de visitações foi realizado um inventário relativo à Inquisição de Lisboa. Através da apresentação de espaços, personalidades e monumentos, a intenção foi identificar elementos que posteriormente pudessem constituir um roteiro temático. Assim conseguiu-se apurar elementos suficientes e pertinentes para a elaboração do projeto do roteiro, sendo esse dividido entre a sua identificação e justificação e o desenho de como se deverá estruturar na prática. É importante clarificar que mais do que reaver a memória da Inquisição, esta oferta cultural procura contribuir para uma sociedade mais consciencializada e capaz de resistir a manipulações. No fundo, uma sociedade que elimine o obstáculo que é a intolerância no que respeita todas as interações humanas.

This work aimed to conduct the construction of an itinerary of the Inquisition in Lisbon, after perceiving if there are enough elements in the city. The Holy Office was, undoubtedly, one of the most powerful institutions in Portugal and for almost three centuries influenced and repressed Portuguese society. Despite being a taboo topic, it has been studied scientifically, being the next step to provide greater access to this knowledge to society, in a dynamic way. In this sense, it was studied the inquisitorial presence in Europe during the Middle Ages and later in Portugal, from 1536 to 1821. All the fronts on which the institution operated, its way of operating and the way it shaped itself according to its needs are presented. Then, based on bibliography, inquisitorial processes, lists of acts of faith and visitation records, an inventory was elaborated on the Lisbon Inquisition. Through the presentation of spaces, personalities and monuments, the intention was to identify elements that could posteriorly constitute a thematic itinerary. Therefore, it was possible to determine sufficient and relevant elements for the elaboration of the project of the itinerary, which was divided between its identification and justification and the design of how it should be structured in practice. It is important to clarify that more than recovering the memory of the Inquisition, this cultural offer seeks to contribute to a more aware society capable of resisting manipulation. Essentially, a society that eliminates the obstacle that is intolerance regarding all human interactions.
