Restauração e refúgio: Identidade e integração de refugiados em Lisboa

Abstract

A guerra civil na Síria começou em 2011 e até hoje não se perspetiva resolução. Esta guerra civil e outras no Médio Oriente levaram à migração forçada de milhões de pessoas. A migração tem relevância nas práticas alimentares, mas isto não se nota quando vemos os estudos realizados. Assim, o presente estudo visa uma reflexão sobre os restaurantes de refugiados árabes em Lisboa como sendo sítios onde existe uma convergência de diversas dimensões que constroem a identidade dos refugiados na cidade de Lisboa e tem como objetivo analisar as representações da comida do Médio Oriente para os refugiados do Médio Oriente na Área Metropolitana de Lisboa e os efeitos possíveis na identidade dos mesmos ao trabalhar com comida do seu país em Lisboa. A metodologia utilizada neste estudo de carácter qualitativo foi a entrevista e foram entrevistadas cinco pessoas relacionadas a dois restaurantes de comida do Médio Oriente. A partir da análise documental e da análise das entrevistas foi possível perceber-se a importância dada à comida do seu país pelos refugiados como uma forma de não quebrar a ligação com o seu país, com a sua família e consigo próprio. Sendo a comida altamente cultural, é também fulcral na identidade dos refugiados e é uma forma destes mostrarem quem são e de onde vêm.

The civil war in Syria started in 2011 and there is still no resolution to date. This civil war and others in the Middle East have led to the forced migration of millions of people. Migration has relevance in dietary practices, but this is not noticeable when we look at the studies carried out. Thus, the present study aims at reflecting on Arab refugee restaurants in Lisbon as being places where there is a convergence of different dimensions that build the identity of refugees in the city of Lisbon and aims to analyze the representations of Middle Eastern food for the refugees from the Middle East in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area and the possible effects on their identity when working with food from their country in Lisbon. The methodology used in this qualitative study was the interview where five people related to two Middle Eastern food restaurants were interviewed. From the documentary analysis and the analysis of the interviews, it was possible to perceive the importance given to the food of their country by the refugees as a way of not breaking the connection with their country, with their family and with themselves. As food is highly cultural, it is also central to the identity of refugees and is a way for them to show who they are and where they come from.
