Narrativas espaciais: A experiência sensorial do percurso arquitectónico, piscinas a céu aberto no Jamor

Abstract

O presente ensaio procura expor a relevância do tema da colocação do Homem perante o mundo através do seu movimento nele, na área da arquitectura. Tem como objectivo a procura de uma aproximação mais existencial e sensorial à prática da arquitectura. Analisa-se, em primeiro lugar, os conceitos que envolvem o Homem, nomeadamente o Espaço, o Lugar e o Tempo. Todo este percurso se inicia na percepção do Homem como um ser espacial, para se movimentar pelos conceitos de lugar e tempo até chegar, por fim a um entendimento da experiência arquitectónica através do Corpo e dos Sentidos. Quer-se entender o quadro conceptual presente neste trabalho como um todo, procurando uma forma mais humana de entender e pensar a arquitectura. Analisam-se teorias existencialistas de filósofos como Otto Bollnow, Martin Heidegger e Merleau-Ponty; assim como obra de arquitectos como Christian Norberg-Schulz, Peter Zumthor e Juhani Pallasma. Percebe-se a ligação directa entre a arquitectura e o campo da Fenomenologia, construindo a ponte conceptual entre teorias de filósofos e arquitectos para a criação de um pensamento de fenomenologia intencional na arquitectura. Por fim, elabora-se um atlas de imagens e ilustrações que pretende evidenciar, de forma ilustrativa, obras de referência, com o objectivo de fomentar a curiosidade e interesse por obras de arquitectura com raízes e intenções existenciais e fenomenológicas.

This paper seeks to expose the relevance of the place of the human being in the world through his movement on it, in the field of architecture. It establishes the objective of searching for a more existential and sensory approach to the practice of architecture. Firstly, we analyze the concepts that surround human beings, namely Space, Place and Time. All of this path has its beginning in the perception of the human being as a spatial entity and moves on to concepts of place and time until it arrives at an understanding of the architectonic experience through the Body and the Senses. We aim to comprehend this conceptual framework as a whole, in the search for a more humane way of thinking architecture. We analyze existentialist theories of philosophers such as Otto Bollnow, Martin Heidegger and Merleau-Ponty; as well as theories from architects such as Christian Norberg-Shulz, Peter Zumthor and Juhani Pallasma. We establish a direct link between architecture and the field of Phenomenology, building a conceptual bridge between the theories of these philosophers and architects, towards the creation of a line of thought of intentional phenomenology in the field of architecture. Lastly, we craft an atlas of images and illustrations highlighting, in a visual way, architectural works of reference, with the aim of raising curiosity and interest in architectural works with existentialist and phenomenological roots or intentions.
