onde o trabalhador se apresentava saudável; (1b) onde o trabalhador se apresentava doente;
(2a) onde o cliente adotava uma postura educada; (2b) onde o cliente adotava uma postura
agressiva.
No final serão apresentadas algumas implicações teóricas e práticas, limitações e
This investigation aimed to study the relationships that are established between the variables rumination and negative affect, associated with the concept of emotional intelligence, in hotel workers, based on the model of emotional intelligence developed in 1997 by Mayer and Salovey. These variables were studied taking into account two scenarios for each intervening part of the worker-client relationship, in order to contemplate presentism (on the part of workers) and different types of clients: (1a) where the worker presented healthy; (1b) where the worker presented sick; (2a) where the client adopted an educated posture; (2b) where the client adopted an aggressive posture. With a sample of 367 people who currently work or have worked in the hotel sector, a questionnaire was applied in order to see how these workers would feel and act in the different scenarios already mentioned. Based on the results it was possible to verify that: workers who are sick, psychologically or physically, develop more negative affect in relation to their work and ruminate more than healthy workers and that workers who more often receive complaints from customers who adopt an aggressive posture tend to feel more negative affect in relation to their work and ruminate more than workers who receive the same complaints in a more polite way. At the end, some theoretical and practical implications, limitations and suggestions for future studies will be presented, highlighting the importance of contemplating a larger sample in similar studies. |
