o primeiro desses serviços a chegar a Portugal.
utilizadores do streaming.
Streaming tv contents through the internet and the birth of streaming providers are the latest revolutions in the way we consume and relate with television. The viewer now has the ability to choose which content he wants to watch, when he wants to watch it, how he wants to watch it, and in which screen he wants to view it. Netflix was just the first of those providers to arrive in Portugal and it’s making a difference. We start on the shoulders of those who have already analysed the effects of Netflix and other providers in big countries like the United States to find the main characteristics of thoses services and how they are already changing the way we concept and relate with the tv set and the tv watching and we try to find out if in Portugal the tendency is the same. Questioning and interviewing a universe of 20 households with Netflix, a profile of the television diets of consumption was drawn, characterizing the ways these households consume tv contents and the way these consumptions have evolve since the arrival of Netflix. The transition from classic TV viewing to a viewing that does not depend on a single platform – the tv set – and is not regulated by schedules, days of showing and TV programming was also monitored. The results show that Netflix is changing not only the way TV is perceived in participants’ households and how its importance as the primordial view screen has definitely changed, following the global tendency, but also that the TV diets are being altered, with viewers looking for quality, both in narrative and in aesthetic, and penalizing linear TV contents with less production values. The way Netflix is entering in the Portuguese tv consumption habits and the changes it is originating in the consumers market is the base for a broader analysis about the evolution of the tv broadcasting and tv contents production of Portuguese markets and what can be done to recover a part of the population who is leaving classic TV and not coming back. |
