Os homens não são iguais e todas as mulheres não são iguais: representações dos jovens sobre sexualidade

Abstract

Os resultados de diversas pesquisas apontam para as profundas transformações que têm vindo a ocorrer, desde os anos 60, do século XX, no que diz respeito à família, ao género e à sexualidade, como a democratização da vida íntima, a uma pluralização da vida familiar ou o reconhecimento da diversidade sexual. Entre as várias mudanças que se deram no domínio da sexualidade encontramos a aproximação das trajectórias e atitudes sexuais de homens e mulheres. Actualmente, as mulheres vivem a sua sexualidade de forma mais liberta e aberta a novas possibilidades. No entanto, as diversas mudanças não são iguais em todo o mundo, não sendo acessíveis a todas as pessoas. As transformações das relações sociais que dizem respeito à sexualidade são menos radicais do que geralmente se acredita. Ao nível da sexualidade, coexiste um discurso moderno igualitário em relação às mulheres com o tradicionalismo patente nas questões do controlo da sexualidade feminina. Neste paper iremos apresentar alguns resultados de uma pesquisa em curso sobre as trajectórias sexuais dos jovens adultos para a conjugalidade e para a parentalidade. Os dados foram obtidos através de entrevistas biográficas, realizadas em Leiria, a 20 jovens entre os 18 e os 29 anos, pertencentes a diferentes meios sociais. Pretendemos focar a análise nas práticas e representações dos jovens sobre a sexualidade. Procuramos responder a algumas questões centrais: qual o significado que a sexualidade têm para estes jovens? Será que rapazes e raparigas têm a mesma possibilidade de viver a sexualidade? Será que permanece ainda a existência do duplo padrão sexual?

The results of various pieces of research indicate the great changes that have taken place since the 1960s with regard to the family, gender and sexuality, for example, the democratisation of the intimate side of life, the pluralisation of family life and the recognition of sexual diversity. Among the various changes that have occurred in the area of sexuality, we find that the sexual attitudes and trajectories of men and women have drawn closer together. At the present time, women live their sexuality in a way that is more liberated and more open to new possibilities. However, the various changes are not the same throughout the world and are not accessible to everybody. The transformations in social relations with respect to sexuality are less radical than is generally believed. As far as sexuality is concerned, a modern egalitarian discourse concerning women coexists with the traditionalism evident in questions of the control of female sexuality. 3 In this paper, we shall present some of the results of research that is being carried out on the sexual trajectories of young adults towards conjugal relationships and parenthood. The data was collected by means of biographical interviews held in Leiria with 20 young people aged 18 to 29 years, from different social environments. We seek to place the focus of the analysis on the young people's practices and representations with regard to sexuality. Our aim is to answer certain key questions: what meaning does sexuality have for these young people? Do young men and young women have the same ability to live their sexuality? Does the two-track sexual pattern still exist?
