"Dois iguais, dois diferentes?": diferenças e semelhanças na qualidade dos comportamentos: maternos e paternos nas interações com os filhos

Abstract

A qualidade dos comportamentos parentais, na interação com as crianças, é uma componente central da análise da parentalidade na primeira infância. As semelhanças e especificidades nos comportamentos de mães e pais têm sido extensamente investigadas não existindo, no entanto, consenso nos resultados obtidos. Este trabalho visou analisar e comparar a qualidade dos comportamentos maternos e paternos, numa amostra portuguesa de 36 mães e 33 pais de crianças em idade pré-escolar, controlando-se o sexo, idade da criança e variáveis sociodemográficas dos pais. Para tal utilizou-se um questionário sociodemográfico e a Tarefa dos Três Sacos, posteriormente codificada por observadores treinados e independentes, utilizando as escalas de Sensibilidade Parental de Ainsworth; de Presença de Suporte, Intrusividade, Clareza e Sensibilidade e Timing da Instrução de Egeland e colaboradores. Os resultados indicam que mães e pais apresentam comportamentos caracterizados pela Sensibilidade e Suporte, embora existam diferenças significativas entre ambos para a Sensibilidade, Intrusividade e Clareza na Instrução. Não existem diferenças em função do sexo das crianças ou associações com a idade das mesmas. As horas de trabalho encontram-se negativamente associadas à sensibilidade materna. Não existem associações significativas em nenhuma das dimensões analisadas ao nível da qualidade dos comportamentos parentais no casal. Os resultados obtidos indicam que mães e pais apresentam diferenças mas, também, semelhanças na qualidade dos seus comportamentos, equacionando-se o envolvimento paterno e as características dos pais como potenciais explicações para a sua disparidade.

The parental behaviors, on interactions with children, are a central component to inquire the quality of parenting in early childhood. The similarities and differences in the behaviors of mothers and fathers have been extensively investigated, not existing however, consensus in the results. Therefore, the quality of the maternal and paternal behaviors were compared and analyzed, in a Portuguese sample of 36 mothers and 33 fathers of preschool-aged children, accounting for sex, age of the child and socio-demographic variables of the parents. A demographic questionnaire was used, as well as The Three Bags Task, being subsequently codified by trained and independent observers and codified according to the scales of Parental Sensitivity by Ainsworth and Presence of Support, Intrusiveness, Clarity and Sensitivity and Timing of the Instruction by Egeland and colleagues. The results indicate that mothers and fathers display behaviors characterized by Sensitivity and Support. Although there are significant differences between them for Sensitivity, Intrusiveness and Clarity of Instruction. There are no differences according to sex of the child, or associations with the age of the child. Working hours are negatively associated with maternal sensitivity. There are significant differences between mothers and fathers for Sensitivity, Intrusiveness and Clarity in the Instruction. There are no significant associations in any of the dimensions analyzed regarding the quality of parental behaviors in the couple. The results indicate that mothers and fathers present differences as well as resemblances in the quality of their behaviors, considering the paternal involvement and parents characteristics as potential explanations.
