The budget accommodation sector, namely the hostels, have experienced a strong growth over the past two decades. Since 1910, when the first hostel was founded by Richard Schirrman in Altena, Germany, up to the present day, have emerged about 33,000 Units around the world. In Portugal, by the end of 2016, more than 300 establishments of this type were already registered. The hostels of our days, despite having maintained the concept of budget accommodation, have undergone significant evolutions, both in the quality and diversity of the services rendered, and in the conditions and comfort that they provide. This Project intends to design and evaluate the economic and financial viability of the creation of a hostel in Algés. To this end, a business plan was drawn up, taking into account the aggregating, guiding and evaluation character of this management tool. In the first phase, the literature review, it was possible to identify the economic importance of tourism, the particularities of youth tourism, the different concepts of tourist accommodation, youth tourist accommodation and more specifically the hostels, their various types and main characteristics. In the second phase, and in order to respond to the research problem, the usual structure of a business plan was followed, namely market analysis, internal analysis, competitive analysis, development strategy, objectives and definition of implementation policies, culminated in its economic and financial analysis and conclusions |
