Abstract

A dissertação Regresso(s) à Tradição versa sobre o estudo da relação entre os conceitos de Tradição e Arte Contemporânea, no panorama artístico do final do século XX e início do sé- culo XXI. Assumindo a Arte Contemporânea como consequência de fenómenos como a globalização, em parte responsáveis pela queda de ideais estéticos que determinavam o que se poderia considerar até então como arte, e contemplando um novo panorama, onde o uso do quotidiano e a vontade intrínseca em provocar choque passam a ser comummente aceites. Assumindo a Tradição, como os antigos valores da arte, produto do ensino clássico, com incidência na representação figurativa da natureza e figura humana, no apuramento da técnica e no estudo das obras dos mestres da História de Arte. É estudada a relação e a coexistência entre Tradição e Arte Contemporânea através de uma análise ao panorama artístico recente, recorrendo a montras como o Prémio Turner, reflexo dos tempos. Ao contributo da Arte Conceptual no panorama artístico actual. Ao caso de Pablo Picasso, artista conotado com a vanguarda, mas de base profundamente tradicional, e ao legado que a sua obra deixa em vários artistas contemporâneos, destacando o caso do pintor Britânico David Hockney.

The dissertation Return(s) to Tradition reflects on the study of the relationship between the concepts of Tradition and Contemporary Art, in the artistic scene of the end of the 20th century and beginning of the 21st century. Seeing Contemporary Art as consequence of developments such as globalization, which are partially responsible for breaking aesthetic ideals that used to determine what it could until then be considered as art, and contemplating a new panorama, where the use of the everyday and the intrinsic will to shock came to be commonly accepted. Seeing Tradition, as the old values of art, product of classic teachings, with incidence in the figurative representation of nature and the human figure, in the refining of the technique and the study of the work of masters of Art History. We study the relationship and the coexistence between Tradition and Contemporary Art an analysis of the recent artistic scene, via showcases such as the Turner Prize, a reflection of our times. To the contribution of Conceptual Art in today’s artistic panorama. To the case of Pablo Picasso, artist associated with the vanguard, but with a profound traditional base, and the impact of his legacy in various contemporary artists, highlighting the case of the British painter David Hockney.
