Perceções e representações de bem-estar subjetivo em crianças de uma amostra portuguesa

Abstract

A pesquisa em torno do bem-estar subjetivo com crianças tem merecido um destaque particular desde a Convenção dos Direitos da Criança. Não obstante a importância dos estudos quantitativos, que procuram comparar o bem-estar subjetivo das crianças por forma a influenciar os decisores políticos para a procura de estratégias que visem melhorar a qualidade de vida destas, a pesquisa qualitativa sobre esta matéria tem procurado complementar a pesquisa quantitativa ao procurar compreender os significados atribuídos a este conceito. Enquadrado no âmbito do projeto internacional Children’s Understandings of Well-Being: Multinational Qualitative Study, o presente estudo visa analisar a perceção que as crianças têm acerca do seu bem-estar, mais especificamente, os significados atribuídos ao mesmo e aos domínios que lhe subjazem, utilizando também para este efeito o desenho enquanto metodologia complementar. Para o efeito, foram entrevistadas, individualmente e em grupo, 20 crianças com idades compreendidas entre os sete e os 12 anos e foram analisados 20 desenhos das crianças. Os resultados das entrevistas mostraram que os Direitos das crianças emergem como a dimensão mais expressiva, mais especificamente os direitos à Segurança e à Liberdade. Para além deste, a Escola surgiu como o segundo domínio mais expressivo, principalmente associada a Aspetos Relacionais. Já os resultados dos desenhos mostraram que a Família surge como o microssistema mais expressivo, seguido da Utilização dos tempos livres e dos Amigos. Através do recurso a diferentes metodologias, este estudo vem contribuir para uma análise mais aprofundada acerca dos significados que estão associados aos domínios de bem-estar nas crianças.

The research regarding the subjective well-being of children has received a particular emphasis since the Convention of Children’s Rights. Not with standing the importance of the quantitative studies, which seek to compare the subjective well-being of children in order to influence the policy makers for the search of strategies that aim to improve the quality of life of children, the qualitative research around this subject has been looking to complement the quantitative research by seeking to understand the meanings attributed to this concept. Framed in the framework of the international project “Children’s Understandings of Well-Being: Multinational Qualitative Study”, the present study aims to analyze the perception that the children have about their own well-being, more specifically, the meanings attributed to it and to the underlined domains, using also to this outcome the drawing as complementary methodology. Subsequently, there were interviewed, individually and in group, 20 children with ages ranging between seven and twelve years old, and there were analyzed 20 drawings of children. The results of the interviews showed that the Rights of Children emerge as the most expressive dimension, more specifically, the rights to Security and Freedom. Furthermore, the School emerged as the second most expressive domain, mainly associated to Relational Aspects. In turn, the results of the drawings showed that the Family emerge as the most expressive microsystem, followed by the Use of the Free Times and Friends.
