Copos, corpos e afetos : Gênero, sexualidade e imigração no contexto das casas de alterne

Abstract

Este trabalho é resultado de uma investigação etnográfica realizada entre 2010 e 2015 sobre o universo de experiências de brasileiras que trabalham em bares de alterne em Portugal. Bares de alterne são estabelecimentos direcionados ao público masculino onde o trabalho das mulheres é entreter e fazer companhia aos clientes induzindo-os ao consumo. Lanço aqui um olhar multidimensional sobre a vida de onze mulheres brasileiras envolvidas com esta atividade, prestando especial atenção: no processo migratório e na condição de imigrante em Portugal; nas relações familiares reconfiguradas pela situação transnacional; nas performances e estratégias nas interações com os clientes dentro e fora dos bares. A centralidade deste estudo está em compreender os processos de ressignificações identitárias que este campo de sociabilidades produz, sobretudo no que diz respeito às percepções e objetificações sobre a sexualidade. Desde os estereótipos calcados numa alteridade tropicalizada, passando pela desvalorização social do uso instrumental da intimidade, ao elogio da maternidade e do cuidado dedicado à família, os dilemas aqui analisados estiveram sempre relacionados com as formas com que a sexualidade da mulher é produzida, percebida e vivida no ocidente contemporâneo. Em efeito, foi fundamental compreender as maneiras pelas quais as colaboradoras são circunscritas socialmente em relação às estruturas de gênero, sexualidade, nacionalidade, raça e classe. A partir daí, foi possível evidenciar não só a influência desse posicionamento social nas vivências das mulheres mas também como elas mobilizam as desigualdades transformando-as em recursos que desestabilizam os focos de poder e abrem brechas para negociações e possibilidades de ação.

This work is the result of an ethnographic research held between 2010 and 2015 about the universe of experiences lived by Brazilian women who work in “Bares de Alterne” in Portugal. Bares de Alterne are gentleman's clubs where the woman's job is to entertain the customers and to make them to consume. This study presents a multidimensional outlook over the life of eleven Brazilian women involved in such activity paying special attention to: the migratory process and the condition of being a migrant in Portugal; the kin relations reshaped by the transnational situation; the performances and strategies employed in the interactions with the customers inside and outside the bars. The main objective of the research is to analyze and to understand the processes of identities ressignification produced in this context, especially regarding the perceptions and objectifications women in this field make about sexuality. From the stereotypes based in a tropicalized otherness, passing by the social depreciation of the instrumentalization of intimacy, to the exaltation of motherhood and the care for the family, all the dilemmas analyzed here have been related with the ways that woman's sexuality is produced, understood and lived in the contemporaneous western society. Nevertheless it was very important to understand the ways the subjects of this research are socially placed within the structures of gender, sexuality, nationality, race and class. From then on it was possible to highlight not only the influence of the social positioning in the life of these women but also the ways they convert the inequalities into resources that destabilize the power and open possibilities of negotiation and agency.
