Alzheimer: sob o olhar de quem cuida

Abstract

A presente investigação pretende identificar quais as dificuldades que os Cuidadores Informais enfrentam na prestação de cuidados a Pessoas com Alzheimer. Neste sentido foi elaborada uma recolha de informação sobre a Doença de Alzheimer, o ato de cuidar, a definição de Cuidador Informal, e sobre o Estatuto do Cuidador Informal. Por forma a proceder à recolha da informação pretendida, adotou-se o método de investigação qualitativo, nomeadamente, através da realização de entrevistas semiestruturadas a Cuidadores Informares. As dificuldades apresentadas pelos Cuidadores Informais foram a vários níveis, designamente, profissional, pessoal, financeiro, e social. De uma forma geral os entrevistados demonstraram cansaço face à sua condição de cuidadores, e manifestaram sentirem-se sozinhos e descrentes. Existe uma grande necessidade de apoio na prestação de cuidados, principalmente nas atividades de vida diária. A pandemia de Covid-19 veio acentuar ainda mais as dificuldades sentidas/ vivenciadas no quotidiano destes Cuidadores Informais. Apesar da recente criação do Estatuto do Cuidador Informal, nenhum do Cuidadores tinha efetuado o pedido do reconhecimento da sua condição. Após entrevistar cada um dos Cuidadores Informais, ficou ciente que é de extrema importância que sejam implementadas medidas e políticas de apoio.

The present investigation aims to identify the difficulties that Informal Caregivers face in providing care to People with Alzheimer's. In this sense, a collection of information about Alzheimer's Disease, the act of caring, the definition of Informal Caregiver, and the Statute of Informal Caregiver was prepared. In order to collect the desired information, the qualitative research method was adopted, namely, through semi-structured interviews with Informal Caregivers. The difficulties presented by Informal Caregivers were at various levels, namely, professional, personal, financial, and social. In general, the interviewees showed tiredness in view of their condition as caregivers, and expressed feeling alone and unbelieving. There is a great need for support in the provision of care, especially in activities of daily living. The pandemic - Covid-19 further accentuated the difficulties felt / experienced in the daily lives of these Informal Caregivers. Despite the existence of the Informal Caregiver Statute, none of the Caregivers had applied for recognition of their condition. Existing social policies are scarce, and the National Dementia Plan is slow to emerge. After interviewing each of the Informal Caregivers, he became aware that it is extremely important that measures and policies are implemented that provide support and recognition.
