O papel do crowdfunding no desenvolvimento de projetos inovadores em Portugal

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar qual o papel do crowdfunding no desenvolvimento de projetos inovadores em Portugal. Para tal, foi realizada uma sistematização de contribuições bibliográficas recentes sobre o conceito de crowdfunding ou financiamento colaborativo e elaborada uma pesquisa empírica sobre a caracterização do fenómeno em Portugal, nomeadamente sobre a identificação e funcionamento das plataformas, a regulamentação existente, os fatores de sucesso dos projetos e as perspectivas futuras. A pesquisa empírica comportou a identificação e caracterização das plataformas de crowdfunding em Portugal e o estudo de todos os projetos inovadores financiados na totalidade, desde a criação das plataformas até 31 de maio de 2015. Os dados obtidos neste estudo evidenciaram que o conceito de crowdfunding ainda é pouco conhecido e pouco explorado no país. No entanto, desde 2011, quando começaram a surgir as primeiras plataformas, o conceito têm crescido significativamente e tende a crescer ainda mais com a regulamentação específica para duas modalidades, que a partir deste ano poderão ser utilizadas no país. O contributo para o desenvolvimento de projetos inovadores demonstrou ser bastante positivo em todos os casos analisados, na medida em que o crowdfunding representa uma nova forma ou uma forma complementar de financiamento, principalmente para projetos em fase de arranque, que, de outra forma, não conseguiriam levantar o capital necessário ao seu arranque.

The aim of this study is to analyze the role of crowdfunding in the development of innovative projects in Portugal. For this purpose a systematization of recent bibliographical contributions on the concept of crowdfunding or collaborative financing was conducted. This was followed by an empirical research on the characterization of the phenomenon in Portugal, in particular on the identification and operation of platforms, on the existing regulations, on the success factors of projects and on future prospects. The empirical research covered the identification and characterization of all crowdfunding platforms operating in Portugal and an in-depth analysis of the innovative projects entirely funded from the creation of the platforms until 31th May, 2015. The results from this study show that the concept of crowdfunding is still little known and explored in the country. However, since 2011, when the first platform has appear, the concept has grown significantly and tends to grow further with the relevant legislation in two forms, which from this year will be used in the country. The contribution to the development of innovative projects proved to be relevant in all cases analyzed. The results show, that crowdfunding is a new and complementary form to finance innovative projects, particularly for project start-up, that otherwise would not be able to raise the necessary capital.
