Arquitetura por subtração: Espaços subterrâneos

Abstract

Nesta dissertação, reflito sobre a estrutura, atualmente em ruínas, da 7ª Bateria da costa, o Forte Velho do Outão, e de que forma se pode intervir no mesmo para obter espaços para programas de banhos públicos, hotelaria e restaurante. De modo a conservar a camada verde protegida da Serra da Arrábida, atinjo o espaço pretendido por subtração de matéria orgânica em locais específicos da implantação do Forte e ao longo da arriba que o define. Desta forma dou acesso a locais anteriormente inacessíveis, e defino novas formas de vivência dos espaços subterrâneos existentes, o centro-comando e os bunkers da 7ª Bateria.

In this dissertation, I reflect on the structure, currently in ruins, of the 7th Coastal Battery, the Forte Velho do Outão, and how it can be intervened to obtain spaces for public bathing programs, hotels and restaurants. In order to conserve the protected green layer of Serra da Arrábida, I reach the desired space by subtracting organic matter in specific locations around the Fort and along the cliff that defines it. In this way, I provide access to previously inaccessible places, and define new ways of experiencing existing underground spaces, the command center and the bunkers of the 7th Battery.
