Well-being is increasingly linked to individual and collective happiness. On the other hand, stress and burnout are phenomena whose prevalence has been increasing dramatically, impacting the lives of tens of millions of people (Chamorro et.al, 2016). This study seeks to investigate the well-being associated with the activity of professional football athletes, which is exposed to constant change (Warr, 1990). The literature has identified a wide range of factors that call into question the well-being of these professionals, namely quite intense demands, extremely rigid schedules, lack of freedom, various limitations, a high number of trips, uncertainty about the future and huge sacrifices. According to Stolen et.al, (2005), these professionals are exposed daily to very high levels of pressure and physical and psychological wear. As well-being, stress and burnout are related to the individual and organizational capabilities of high performers, we sought to identify the factors that contribute to these phenomena, as well as understand how they are related. To this end, the qualitative method was used for data collection. Twenty-eight interviews were conducted with professional high-performance athletes. The results illustrate the importance of the locker room environment, family and friends, the climate of mutual help in the organization and the injuries in the well-being and stress of the athletes. Organizational, work relationships, social support and individual factors that facilitate and hinder athletes' performance were also identified. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.por
