| dc.description.abstract | This contribution explores the structural and political conditions of journalism in the Republic of Benin. It discusses opportunities, but also constraints on the prospering of independent and excellent media productions, including economic aspects as well as modes of censorship. I argue that we have to consider not only direct interventions by media authorities and the central state, but also indirect modes of obstructing the freedom of press. Furthermore, it focuses on the precarious working conditions of young media professionals, exemplified by radio producers (presenters, DJs, technicians, and journalists). Despite the various challenges they are facing, many of them manage to acquire a substantial appreciation among both their colleagues and their audiences. | por |
