| dc.description.abstract | This study explores how film-related elements influence tourists’ willingness to visit a destination through emotional and motivational processes. Grounded in the Stimulus–Organism–Response (SOR) framework, the study develops and tests a model that connects cinematic stimuli, such as authenticity, attractiveness, cultural relevance, and emotional engagement, to tourists’ internal motivations and finally to willingness to visit. Data was collected through an online questionnaire divided into two distinct groups: one group exposed to a scene from a film portraying a destination and another unexposed. Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), the findings show that emotional engagement is the strongest predictor of willingness to visit. In contrast, authenticity and attractiveness did not show significant effects, while cultural relevance emerged as a meaningful motivational factor. The Multi-Group Analysis (MGA) further revealed that previous experience with film tourism moderates emotional and motivational responses, showing that familiarity and novelty influence how audiences translate film exposure into travel intentions. Overall, this study deepens the understanding of how cinematic storytelling, emotion, and cultural meaning work together to inspire tourism behaviour, enriching the existing literature on film-induced tourism by emphasising the central role of emotional mechanisms within the SOR framework, and offering theoretical and practical implications for destination marketing and tourism management. | |
