In Portugal, the retail sector is one of the professional groups most at risk of developing burnout symptoms (Deco Proteste, 2018). In addition to the impact of sociodemographic and professional variables, research has tested the protective role of variables such as perceptions of justice, namely, Belief in a Just World (BJW) (Abreu, 2018), Defensive Infrahumanization (Vaes & Muratore, 2013) and Organizational Identification (OI) (Ferris, Jetten, Johnstone, Girdham, Parsell & Walter, 2016). This research aims to analyze the association between all these variables: BJW, OI, infrahumanization and burnout, controlling sociodemographic and professional variables. The sample consists of 162 professionals from the retail sector. Perceptions of justice were measured with a Personal and General Belief in a Just World scale (Dalbert, 1999), OI was measured with one item (Postmes, Haslam & Jans, 2013), infrahumanization was measured by attributing negative secondary emotions to a customer allegedly injured and burnout was measured with the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI). The mediation of infrahumanization in the relationship between BJW and burnout was not significant, and OI did not moderate this mediation. However, there was a significant interaction effect between personal BJW and OI on personal burnout and work-related burnout, which showed that professionals who simultaneously perceive less injustice and are more identified with the organization are those who have less burnout. This effect occurs over and above the effect of sociodemographic and professional variables.por
