Voices for Palestine from Germany: Global activists of the pro-Palestine movemen

Abstract

Este projeto de dissertação investiga o movimento social pró-palestiniano na Alemanha a partir de uma perspetiva ativista. Dada a renovada escalada das relações entre Israel e a Palestina em 7 de outubro de 2023, o ativismo pró-palestiniano atingiu um novo nível de visibilidade no discurso público global, ao mesmo tempo que se tornou alvo de uma repressão intensificada em certos contextos ocidentais. Neste ambiente polarizado, o estudo explora oportunidades políticas, mobilização e enquadramento através de entrevistas qualitativas com ativistas globais envolvidos na Alemanha. Baseada na teoria dos movimentos sociais, a análise situa essas perspetivas em debates mais amplos sobre justiça global, explorando como a solidariedade com a Palestina se cruza com movimentos transnacionais pela descolonização, anti-imperialismo e igualdade sistémica.

This dissertation project investigates the pro-Palestinian social movement in Germany from an activist perspective. Given the renewed escalation of Israel-Palestine relations on October 7, 2023, pro-Palestinian activism has reached a new level of visibility in global public discourse, while simultaneously becoming a target of intensified repression in certain Western contexts. Within this polarised environment, the study explores political opportunities, mobilising structures, and framing processes through qualitative interviews with global activists engaged in Germany. Grounded in social movement theory, the analysis situates these perspectives within broader debates on global justice, exploring how Palestine solidarity intersects with transnational movements for decolonisation, anti-imperialism, and systemic equality.
